07/26/2008 - Indianapolis, IN (Autoracing Betting) - Colin Braun won the pole for Saturday night's Kroger 200 at the O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. The No.16 Roush Fenway Racing Ford driver lapped the 0.686-mile oval in 22.837 seconds (108.140 m.p.h.).
The pole victory was Braun's second career in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. His first pole came in April at Mexico City.
"Carl Edwards and David Ragan both talked to me after their runs," Braun said after capturing the pole at ORP. "They were nice enough to come by and tell me what they thought they could have done better, and I tried to take that and just do that. And it worked. Those guys are a huge help for me, and it's just great having really great teammates like that."
Starting alongside Braun will be Sprint Cup Series points leader Kyle Busch, who posted the second-best time of 22.899.
Cale Gale (22.953) and David Ragan (22.958) will make up row two.
Other drivers of note and their starting positions: Clint Bowyer (10th), Jason Leffler (11th), Carl Edwards (12th) and Brad Keselowski (15th).
Edwards, the defending series champion, kept his title hopes alive with an impressive victory last weekend at St. Louis, moving to within 201 points of leader Bowyer in the process. Keselowski is 170 points behind. Edwards and Keselowski both finished in the top-10 in the 2007 race at ORP. Bowyer did not compete there last year.
Leffler is the defending winner of the Kroger 200. A late-race caution set up a five-lap shootout to the finish. On the restart, Greg Biffle led Leffler, David Reutimann, Edwards, and Ron Hornaday, Jr. The battle for the lead heated up after Leffler's great restart. Biffle, on the outside, ran side-by-side with Leffler, but as they cleared the second turn with two laps to go, Leffler pulled away from Biffle. He then drove to his first Nationwide victory of the season and the second of his career. Leffler also gave Toyota its first win in the series.
Tonight's race is scheduled to start around 8:00 p.m. (et).

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.

Two playoff teams from 2007 take center stage on the NFL Network Sunday night in a Week 2 NFL betting match-up when the (0-1) New England Patriots betting head south to Florida for a contest with the (1-0) Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
New England HC Bill Belichick couldn’t care less about the way his team plays in the preseason. With a chance to tie last week’s game with the Baltimore Ravens betting, He elected to go for the two-point conversion and outright victory. The conversion failed, and the Pats ended up falling to the Ravens by a 16-15 final count.
New England rolled off twelve unanswered points to give it a chance at securing the victory, but it never threatened to cover the 3.5-point spread. NFL bettors saw this one coming, as they bet the Ravens down from +6 to +3.5 as the week progressed. QB Tom Brady didn’t take part in the Patriots first preseason clash, but could see action this weekend.
His three replacements all put up embarrassing numbers. They went a combined 17 for 33, and threw three interceptions and no touchdowns. The New England defense was encouraging, as they held the Ravens to 2/12 third down conversions and surrendered just ten first downs. That ‘D’ should be bolstered with the addition of former Bucs and Denver Broncos betting safety John Lynch, who could make his Patriots debut on Sunday against his former mates.
HC Jon Gruden had to be impressed with the way his Bucs played on both sides of the ball in their dominating 17-6 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 1’s NFL pre-season betting action. Bucs bettors were quite happy with the effort, as they made a mockery of the fact that they were underdogs in the game.
The logjam at the quarterback position didn’t get any easier to separate for Gruden, as all four of his QBs had positive experiences in the first exhibition of 2008. The four combined to complete 28 of their 40 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown, and that was without starting QB Jeff Garcia in the lineup.
RB Michael Bennett had 19 carries and four receptions, totaling 90 yards and a touchdown. Expect to see more of Bennett, Kenneth Darby, and Earnest Graham, as they all compete for playing time with Warrick Dunn in the backfield this season. Defensively, the Bucs recorded four sacks and held the Fins offense in check all day.
First round draft pick Aqib Talib was impressive in the secondary, recording a tackle and two pass defenses in his debut. Don’t be surprised to see Talib in the starting lineup opposite Ronde Barber for the Bucs in ’08.
The betting trends suggest that NFL bettors should be backing the Bucs in this intra-conference exhibition.
These two teams hooked up last year in Tampa Bay, with the Bucs winning that game 13-10. The Buccaneers have only lost one preseason game at home dating back to the beginning of the ’05 preseason. The Patriots have had a mixed bag of results in their recent exhibitions. They have gone 2-2 ATS and SU each of the last three years.
New England currently sits as modest 1-point favorites in this preseason showdown with the ‘total’ now sitting at 34.5.
